Classes have begun

Matt at WestConn 9/13/08
It's so hard to believe that, that time of year has started again. I'm taking 5classes but 3 are on-line, thank goodness for on-line classes. So far so good - but it is only the end of week 2.

I've gotten involved w/a new fund raiser. It's against domestic violence. It is happening at Joe's in New Milford, CT on Oct. 2nd. Anyone wanting more info. let me know.

My mom's surprise party is coming along great - my little party has turned into quite a big deal, I mailed out 57 invitations.

Went to watch Matt's soccer game last night and he played - photo. It was so exciting to watch him - he truly is a young man now.

Brandi is now settled into Saratogo Springs, NY. She has a job working full time as a manager of a hair salon. I'm looking forward to going out to meet her and see what her place is like

Empty Nesters

We had our first empty nesters dinner tonight. There is a group of us who sent our babies out into the college world recently. We've decided to start a new club and about once a month - if not more we will get together.

We moved Brandi down outside of Philly this past Sunday. She has a cute place and she is sharing it with a friend she went to school with. The dogs made the trip with us - as you can see from the picture they are close in size.

I moved Matt into his dorm room this past Thursday - so it is official we are childless. It will be a new experience for Wayne and I. In the 22 years we've been married we've only spent 9 months without children. We'll have to get to reknow each other.

My classes start up tomorrow so it will be back to the books for me.
The top photo is from Matt's graduation party.

Matt made the soccer team

Matt made the soccer team and we are so proud of him. He moves into his dorm room this Thurs. Right now he has plenty of room but soon he'll be in tight quarters.

Brandi leaves this Sat. for outside of Philly. Wayne and I move her stuff up Sunday. We'll spend the night and then walk around the town since neither of us has ever been there before. We plan on taking the dogs so that should be interesting - now we'll be living through the dogs.

Soon both kids will be out - we're thinking of starting an "empty nesters" club.

Christina Applegate

I read on the internet about Christina Applegate removing both her breasts once she discovered she had breast cancer. I actually sent her a note to thank her for having the courage to talk about such a private thing. I think there are so many women out there that put their lives at risk so they can remain "beautiful" and to see someone so young, famous and beautiful take charge of her life and think of her health before her looks.

Obviously I made it back from my New York trip with no problems. It was so nice to see my family, I really hate living this far away.

Matt went off to college today and tonight I had the pleasure of ordering his school books on-line. The cost almost made me sick.

An uneventful day so I'm ready to retire.

Peace to you all.

Summer is almost over and I finally write

Well, summer is almost over and I finally have the time to write. So much has been happening and I'm not ever sure just where to begin. First of all Matt Graduated and will be going off to WestConn in just a couple days. Then we found out that Brandi will be moving outside of Philly - so in a matter of 2 weeks Wayne and I will be childless. I keep smiling on the outside but inside I am really sad...but maybe Wayne and I will finally be able to save a little money.

I took a summer class and that is over - Math. I was so good at it in school...now, ugh. I'm signed up for full-time classes in the fall, thank goodness for on-line classes though - with the price of gas. I will have my class requirements after this round of classes but graduation isn't till May - so I'll have to wait. Still unsure if I will continue on - I do think I need a break.

I have started a new side career - selling Uppercase Living - check out my website http://KathyJMaher.uppercaseliving.net I really love the products, I have a few in my house already. If your interested in more information just email. I'm really excited about it and it is a simple process.

I have decided to make some goals in my life and work towards them. Life goes by so darn fast and I seem to missing out. I'm determined to spend more time with my family and friends, do fun things, keep positive thoughts, help others, give from the heart and write here more. This is a great way to keep in touch with people - I don't honestly understand why more people don't blog. With that being said right now I am at my sister's house in Upstate NY sneaking on her computer. I was so tired I figured I'd go right to sleep - nope wide awake now. I have a 7 hour drive home tomorrow so I'm hoping this will help me sleep.

We have a new addition to the family - 2 children leave - 2 dogs stay. Her name is Ellie Mae and she is a long haired Chihuahua (will post a photo when I get home). She is very sweet but does not do well with change. She loves to be with people and is just like Boston was about being petted - if your hand is dangling she will put her head under it so it's easier for you to pet.

Work is well, as is life. Classes start up again soon - so life will be crazy again but I am aiming to stay organized and hope that helps.

See you back here soon - leave me a comment.

Peace, Kathy

Just where does the time go?

So much time has gone by since I last blogged. I am happy to report that I passed all my classes last semester and I am so glad it is done. It was a tough semester and I didn't do anything but work and study...except. I did manage to get a trip to Vegas in there. That was totally the best. I'm not a big gambler, but I sure did love those lights at night. We are getting ready for the annual Grad Party - it is less than 3 weeks away. I'm doing my section again so I'm sweating it because there is just soo much to do and now so little time. I start a summer math class tomorrow - so again it back to the books. But I will be here more so check back for the updates.

Back from Retreat

We had a wonderful time at our retreat. We went to Silver Lake in Sharon, CT. There was about 23 of us - I think the cabin could sleep 30. We had a huge fireplace in the great room, which we pretty much kept burning morning, noon and night. The snow added the mystical element to make a perfert winter scene. We had to walk to our dining hall and 3 of our members were servers at each meal. I will def. go again and I'd like to try to organize some event up there...once classes are over I'll look into it more. But I can see a painting, scrapbooking or book club weekend get away. Of course I forgot my camera so I have no pictures. If anyone posts them I will try to put a couple here.

Now it's back to work and school...the party is over.

It's been too long

Well, one of my good friends said she noticed that I hadn't updated my blog in months...well that is because school is killing me. I am having a hard time keeping up with everything and am really looking forward to the semester ending.

I am taking ballroom and it is a lot of fun. Of course I don't know how good it will do me because Wayne doesn't know how to dance and I think I'll look pretty funny doing it myself.

English - it's a new teacher and he is learning. His tests are stange but guess I'll learn more in the end.

Math ~ once we do it a couple times, it does come back to me.

Yoga ~ Umm didn't know my body could bend this way. I really do like it.

Medical Term ~ wow there are a lot of words to memorize.

This weekend I am going for a much needed get away with a group of ladies from church - I am looking forward to it an will update everyone when I get back.

Peace all.
